CITY HALL NEWS

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Whether you’ve been watching baseball or softball games, ﬁshing, camping or working in your garden; I think most of us agree that summer is a busy time of year!! We have been blessed with some timely rain; here is to hoping this continues for a bountiful crop for our farmers and gardeners! By the time you read this the July 4^th celebration may be over; time sure does not stand

still. 😎

You will be seeing less and less of Becky and more of me (Courtney McCullough) as she pulls away for full retirement! Lord knows she deserves it! Haha. I attended 4 days of clerk classes in Ames June 15-18 that were very informational and fun to be honest. Met many other clerks and learned a lot of new things about ﬁnance and budgeting! I am excited to apply what I have learned to my everyday work!

WE HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS!!

The city has received notiﬁcation from the Iowa

Finance Authority, that we have been awarded loan forgiveness towards the sewer project. Out of the actual loan of $840,717.28 we were awarded $749,000 to

put toward it!!!! 🤟🙂

WATER PAYMENTS

The City of Bode still reads all water meters and sends out bills on a QUARTERLY basis. If making payments towards this bill on a monthly/weekly schedule works better for your household please contact me and we can work together to come up with a payment plan. I would also like to remind everyone that we have a drop box at City Hall in the door that can be used after hours or on days we are closed.

GARBAGE COLLECTION

Garbage pick- up is on Tuesday’s; everyone is allowed two ORANGE bags to be placed out for pick-up on garbage day. Any household exceeding this limit will be billed $2 per bag. These bags are available for purchase at City Hall, Bode Library, and GiGi’s Mercantile.

These bags need to be tied with the string on the bag; we ﬁnd bags very full and left untied. Pickup time starts around 9 a.m. If your garbage is not out when they are in your neighborhood you will have to wait till next week as they are not coming back around to get it.

WATER QUALITY REPORT

The Consumer Conﬁdence Report or Water Quality Report is complete if you wish to obtain a copy of the report; they are available at the Bode City Hall during regular working hours. For questions regarding this report, please contact Nathan Hosford.

MOWING

Just a reminder that grass needs to be kept mowed, if it should reach 6 inches the city may mow and bill you as the owner of the property. The city has done research and surrounding towns are much more than we are so we now have a new rate if WE have to mow. The NEW MOWING RATE

WILL BE $200 per lot. Also, please do NOT blow any grass into the streets, this ends up in our storm sewers and blocks the ﬂow of water. If you need help with mowing please let me know and i can get you numbers of people that do

BODE COMMUNITY CLUB

We had a nice turn out for our Memorial Day Program. It was heartwarming to see so many people honoring and remembering our veterans. We have replaced aging Bode Park playground equipment with two new ones. The teeter totter needs a new part also. We are fortunate enough to have community members keep an eye on the park and help with improvements and repairs when needed or if necessary. The ﬂowers on main street were provided by the club again this year. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 12, 2026 @ 5:30 p.m. at the community center to plan Santa Day. Have a safe 4th of July!!

BODE PUBLIC LIBRARY

We are hosting Samantha (Foth) Mckinley as a speaker. She will be sharing her story about how she has stayed strong after her tragic accident changed her and her family's life. Samantha will be speaking on Saturday, July 18th, 2026 @ 1

p.m. at the Twin Rivers Gymnasium in Bode. Also, we would like to host Nathan and Clay who would bring pottery class to us. They would bring everything needed; pottery wheels, stools, clay, buckets, and glazes for the students. Pieces made will be ﬁred and returned for pickup in 4-5 weeks. We NEED your

feedback on this so we know how many are interested in this!! (515-379-1258) We will be doing Brats and Burgers again this summer! Watch for advertising on this!! THANK YOU!

BODE FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Annual Fire Dept summer picnic is quickly approaching. As per usual we will be having chicken, corn on the cob, pork & beans, cheesy potatoes, dessert and lemonade! More details to come….watch your mail or follow the Fire Dept. on facebook!

With it being storm season, the tornado sirens will be set off as part of the county wide warning system. If a tornado is spotted anywhere within the county the Siren in town will be set off. The distinctions between the Tornado Siren and the Fire Siren are two different tones; the tornado siren is a constant tone, while the Fire Siren has a high/low tone. Please be aware of the difference. Also, in case of a tornado watch the tornado shelter that is located at the Fire station and will be unlocked, if a warning is issued and citizens do not have adequate shelter, the basement of the Fire Department is available.
