From the Mayor
By
the time you read this I will be the Ex-Mayor. So, I wanted to say a few things
while I can. There has been changes since I took office 8 years ago 4 as
Councilman and now 4 as Mayor. I wanted to thank all the good citizens of Bode
for making my time in office not too troublesome. I tried to do what I thought
was best for the city of Bode. I worked with a great group of people in all the
different councilmen over the past 8 years and wanted to thank each one of them.
With my leaving you will have a new Mayor in Carol Miller, she has my support
and I am confident that she will do a
fine job as your mayor.
I
also want to thank Becky Struthers, Todd McMahon and Jeff Wheeler for all their
hard work and dedication to the city of Bode. Without each one of them I
couldn’t have done my job. They are the greatest group of people one could ask
to work with again THANK YOU.
Our new city maintenance is Derek Dugan, he seems to have the same dedication as Todd did and
I hope the citizens of Bode give him time to learn all the different things
that are required of him. He is your city worker, and You can help him with a
little patience and at times help doing his job around town.
I have a few things to say about the
people around Bode that don’t seem to care about the city and how it looks and
follow the laws and ordinances that are in place for every citizen of Bode. If
your property looks like crap and you have junk and garbage in your yard, CLEAN
IT UP. The city workers and City Council is not there to do it for you and I
for one as a citizen don’t feel I should have to pay
my tax money to clean it up for you. Take pride in your town, there are a lot of really good people that live in Bode and all
they want is to have a town that is clean
and Law abiding.
I
will close this by saying thank you to everyone that voted for me over the
years and I look forward to seeing all of you around town during my retirement
years.

City Hall News
Happy New Year to all, we hope this year finds you happy and healthy and also less snow than we had in December!
With the New Year we would like to welcome Carol Miller as your new Mayor. Ryan McCart as a newly elected council member; we look forward to all of the new ideas you will bring to the town! We are also very grateful to have Jess Tepner, Rob McKenna, Paula Fulwider, and Glenn Hasfjord staying on the council.
We would also like to thank D.L. Peterson for his years of service as a council member and as your Mayor. D.L has been very active in his duties over the years; we are very thankful for your dedication and consistency over the years. You will be missed!
Todd McMahon and Jeff Wheeler have both retired as well. Todd was employed for 18 years and Jeff 12 years; it’s hard to put into words the impact you have both had within our community. Your dedication and commitment to others truly was seen! We will miss you both and wish you well in retirement!

Snow and Ice:
With winter weather, the city would like to remind you that it is the responsibility of the property owner to remove all-natural accumulation of snow and ice from sidewalks within a reasonable amount of time after accumulation. Please do not blow or shovel your snow into the streets!
When the snow does fall, we appreciate all of the help we can get from our residents and property owners. While you are clearing snow from your sidewalk, please be mindful of any fire hydrants near or on your property. Do not pile snow on or around them as this hides the hydrant from street view.
Winter Parking:
A snow ordinance is in effect from November 1 to April 1 of each year. Therefore, no person shall park, abandon or leave any vehicle unattended on any public street during a snowfall which has accumulated one inch or more of snow, parking such vehicles impedes snow removal operations.
Bode Library
Thanks
to everyone who made our Hot Turkey Sandwich Meal a success.
The library has the book
"What I Remember...Stories from the Heartland. This was
written by Dr. Wayne C. Christiansen. Wayne is the son of Leo who
was the barber in Bode for some time. We also have "My Wonderful
Life written by Becky Aure. Both of these books
are about growing up in Bode.
Bode Fire Department
Hope everyone had a safe harvest. As we go further
into winter, please make sure that your exhaust pipes on the exterior of your
homes are clear of ice and snow. Also, be aware that space heaters are only to
be plugged into a wall outlet and not extension cords. Make sure they are off
when not in the room or when you are not home.
Our Annual Soup Luncheon fundraiser is being planned,
be on the look out for more details to follow.
Bode Community Club
Attendance at the Bode Community Club Santa Day on December 13th
was affected by icy roads and frigid
temperatures again this year. It was a good day for hot soups, cinnamon
rolls and kids telling Santa their
Christmas wishes. Sanat gave each child a bag of treats and an apple.
Our next meeting to plan “Egg hunt and Omelets” will be February 12th
at 5:30PM at the Bode Community Center.
